Today I primarily worked on planning the trip to Japan. Having done what I could for that for the time being, I put in some time on the Kyoto historical places to visit.
Total work hours today was 5.25 hours.
Tomorrow I will continue work on the Japan trip, and we have our weekly meeting tomorrow.

May 26 - Log

Today added some guides to the JLPT section I am doing, so I should be able to start posting on that soon. I finished the Tokyo places to visit, and I continued my interview with an JET participant. Tomorrow I will be finishing up the final hour of interview, and then I will be able to edit it and post it shortly.
Total work time today was 3.4 hours. Tomorrow, other than the interview, I plan to email the U of A to see if it would be possible to be put into contact with some of the Japanese students who will be coming to the U of A, and I plan to work on the posting the Kyoto places to visit and finishing that up. As soon as I know if the polls I created are sufficient, I will make more or edit it for all three major places in Japan.

May 25 - Log

Today I finished the Nagasaki historical places posts and constructed and embedded a poll. Gathered results from the poll can be viewed here: http://www.surveymonkey.com
Login using factsabj@gmail.com (if you are already logged in with Google, it should let you in automatically, without asking for a password).
Total work hours for today was 4.4 hours.
Tomorrow I will be finishing an interview about JET, and then I will work on some JLPT stuff and start updating either the Kyoto or Tokyo places to visit.
Please test out the poll system (I can view the results once people do the survey, if you want), and let me know if this is what you are looking for. It is a ranking system, but there are also customizations available, and I can add more questions to it if you want.

May 23rd - Log

Today we had our weekly meeting, and we worked primarily on indexing. I also worked a little bit on the indexing when I got home today.
Total work hours for today was 5hours.
Tomorrow I will create the archive, finish the indexing, and update the posts of historical places to visit. I will focus on Nagasaki, and creating a poll, so that what I put together can be viewed by everyone at tomorrow's meeting. If I have more time, I plan to work on some JLPT related content, as the July 1st test date is approaching, and it would be good to have some more of this information collected.

Tuesday May 22 - Log

Today I met up with Dean and we worked on the indexing issue, and worked on what we are going to present tomorrow, and what issues we need to assess. I also emailed the Kyoto Summer Program information to Jo, emailed the Prince T centre about JET alternatives, emailed the Alberta Japan Office about JET alternatives and meeting with them this summer, emailed Tokyo Christian University about courses offered in English, and got information from Sophia University about the English courses they offer and their summer program. I also phoned the airline ticked centre and addressed the issues asked of me regarding the Japan trip.
Total work hours for today was 4.8hours.

Tomorrow we have our weekly meeting, and I also plan to send off the email to the U of A to see if we can contact Japanese students who will be attending U of A as an international student. I will also make some of the posts needed for fixing the indexing, as discussed by Dean and I (we can go over this tomorrow at the meeting).

Total work hours for today was 3.3 hours.
Tomorrow I may not do any work, but if I clock an hour or two, I think I will continue editing some of my interviews, or continue on the historical places to visit. That shall be decided when the time comes. :)
Happy Long Weekend!

Friday, May 18th - Log

Today I did not have the time to send off the emails I wanted to, so these will be pushed to another day. I conducted two interviews today, one with a JET participant who will be leaving for Japan in August, and another with a Japanese exchange student. Both interviews require more questions to be answered, so these will be done at a later time. Until then, I will edit and compose the responses I have already collected.

Total work hours for today was 4 hours.

Tomorrow I will be holding another interview with another JET participant, this one who is currently in Japan. I also plan to finish the archive index I began.

Thursday, May 17th Log

Today I posted my interview questions on the Japan Working Blog, posted last night's meeting notes on the Summer Working Blog, and worked on archiving all the old 'historical places to visit posts'. I am almost finished it, but here is what I have so far. I also began one of my interviews on university life in Japan vs. university life in Canada, as well as brainstormed a map of how indexing for the Alberta Japan Network should be fixed. I will consult with the others on this.

Total working hours for today was 4.25hours.

Tomorrow I will focus on sending out emails to build contacts with those discussed on Wednesday's meeting, as well as conduct two interviews.

Wednesday's Blog

Today, all I did was attend our weekly meeting and take note of the advancements I will make on my projects. Total working hours today was 4.65hours.
Tomorrow I will make a brief post of the notes I took during the meeting (though these are very little, and have little relevance to those not directly working on the Alberta Japan blog). I will also post my interview questions in the Japan Working blog, and continue on the historical places to visit.

Tuesday, May 15th

Today I finished up the section on Nagasaki's historical places to visit, created some interview questions for the university life (Japan vs. Canada) section, finalized some interviews, wrote a draft email to send to others regarding jobs in Japan other than JET (I plan to discuss this letter tomorrow, finalize it, and get input on who I should contact), and began compiling information on jobs for Canadians in Japan (other than JET) (for example, eikaiwa, juku, etc). This last part is considered part of the JET project, as the topics will be linked to each other.

Total work time for today was 4.3 hours.

Tomorrow I will discuss some of this at the meeting, take notes for new projects, and I plan to continue a bit with the historical places to visit, if time permits.

Monday's Log

Today I continued with the usual work I had been doing. I worked on more of the Nagasaki portion of the historical places to visit, finished arranging meetings for interviews regarding JET, finalized the JET interview questions I was going to use, and started documents for me to record responses from each individual for the JET and JLPT interviews. I also continued work on the July 1st mini project, and continued with emails to exchange students who may be interested in my piece on Japanese/Canadian university life.
Total work time today was 6.25 hours.
Tomorrow I will continue with the historical places to visit, begin constructing documentation and interview questions on the Japanese/Canadian university life project. I also hope to email a few people who may be able to help me in determining ways that Albertans can move to Japan for work (other than JET).

Sunday May 13th Log

Today I got less done than I wanted to, as the head cold I've been fighting retaliated with full force today. I worked on my JLPT posts today, continued on the historical places to visit for Nagasaki and communicated with those I will be interviewing for the JET section and the post I plan to make on the differences between university life in Japan and university life in Canada. Currently, I am working on scheduling these interviews, and one has been scheduled for Tuesday.
I spent a total of 3.25 hours working today.

Tomorrow I will continue with what I have been working on, and, hopefully if I am feeling better, make up for some of what I wasn't able to accomplish today.

Today's Progress

Today I spent a total of 7.25 hours on the following:
Contacting and talking to previous and current Japanese exchange students for my articles on life at a Canadian university vs. life at a Japanese university, further updating the historical places to visit section, and writing out interview questions for both interviews regarding JET and those regarding the JLPT. I am currently in the process of scheduling meeting times for 3 people doing JET who have agreed to share their experience, one of which will also contribute to my JLPT sections. I also looked into "Canada Day" in Japan and have researched it extensively, only to find little advertised events going on on that day. I have recorded and written up a short article on what I have found so far. I think closer to the date there may be more information available on the web for me to find.

Tomorrow, I plan to continue with what I have been working on, specifically the historical places to visit section, and finalizing interview questions, and begin writing out a my posts on the JLPT.

May 11th - Log

Today I contacted more people about helping contribute to the section on JET and JLPT. I also wrote out a rough draft for everything that will be included in the JET blog post.
I contacted a few Japanese exchange students to see if any would be interested in doing an interview so I can make a post comparing life as a university student in Japan and life as a university student in Canada. Hopefully I will get responses to these emails shortly. I also spent time going through more of the already existing blogs, making notes of desired changes and additions, planing blog templates, and learning more about how to use blogger. I also continued work on the Historical Places to Visit section related to the Tokyo area, though saved these to my own computer to transfer to the blog after the indexing is fixed next week.
Total hours of work today was 8.75hours.

Tomorrow I plan to continue with what I have been working on, write a rough draft entry for the JLPT section, and hopefully get into contact with more JET participants. I will also begin to look into what will be expected on July 1st, in Tokyo.

Today's Log

Today worked on designing, updating, and learning how to navigate this blog, read through more blogs on this network and did more brainstorming on changes and additions I'd like to make. I began contacting my personal contacts regarding the JET programme, and I extensively edited five posts related to Tokyo's historical places to visit. These places are: the Imperial Palace, the Meiji Shrine, the Yasukuni Shrine, Nihonbashi, and the Hamarikyu Gardens.
Regarding the JET programme, I have one friend who will be leaving early August to go on JET (though where exactly won't be revealed to her until sometime in June) who will meet with me for interviews sometime next week. She has agreed to help me compose an entry about her experiences so far, and would be willing to keep me updated during her contract.

Total hours of the day is 0.5 hours emailing and contacting people, 0.5 hours contacting friends who have participated/will participate in JET, and 8.5 hours working on everything else.

Tomorrow I plan to contact more people regarding JET, continue editing the historical sites posts, and begin the JET and JLPT blogs. If time permits, I may also begin researching Canada Day in Tokyo, and hopefully, I will get some replies from people I have emailed today.

May 9th

On May 9th we had our first group meeting and went over everyone's summer projects, and other administration things.
Total time for the meeting was 4 hours, and following the meeting I worked half an hour brainstorming my plan for adjusting my blog, and what type of things I would like to include and alter.

Today (May 10th), I plan to further update this blog and work on some web design. I will also begin conducting notes on the CSJ experience, and contact my friends (both currently doing JET, and about to leave on JET) regarding building some networks over the summer. I would also like to put together a post similar to the "An Interview on Japanese Student Life", by contacting my friend who currently is an exchange student from Japan. I will also begin work on updating the places to travel post.
